How To Install DuPont™ Tyvek® with StaplePac®

Install HomeWrap® in no time with the award-winning STINGER® CS150B Pneumatic Cap Stapling System.

You know that the best practice when installing any building product is to follow the manufacturer's guidelines and local building codes. Luckily, manufacturers like DuPont™ Tyvek® make that simple with a series of guides on their website for correctly installing their products like HomeWrap®.

DuPont recommends using the STINGER® StaplePac®, collated cap staples that are a part of the CS150B pneumatic cap stapling system, to install HomeWrap over wood frame construction. We've summarized their guidelines below and given more insight into why STINGER is their recommended fastener.

Installing HomeWrap

You'll want to place HomeWrap after all sheathing and flashing have been installed but before windows and doors are in place. The first step is to align the roll of HomeWrap at the bottom corner of the structure, ensuring that the bottom edge of the roll extends over the sill plate by at least 1 inch. Unwrap the roll, making sure to overlap vertical seams by 6-12 inches. Secure HomeWrap to the sheathing using the recommended cap fasteners like the STINGER StaplePac.

DuPont also mentions that fasteners should be placed no closer than 6 inches and no farther than 18 inches on vertical stud lines and should not be installed within 6 inches of the sills and jambs and 9 inches of the head of the window rough openings.

Compatible STINGER Fasteners

Now that you've got the specifics for placing HomeWrap, let's dive into the details for your fasteners and tool to get the job done right. The STINGER StaplePac includes 10 rolls of 200 1" collated plastic caps and 20 strips of 18 gauge staples available in 5/8", 7/8 ", 1-1/4", and 1-1/2" lengths, all of which are compatible with HomeWrap. STINGER StaplePac is the top of the line for cap staples, holding on in wind gusts up to 180 mph, limiting tear-aways, and creating an effective seal around the staple, and helping to reduce moisture penetration at the fastener holes. Plus, the plastic caps won't crack under extended UV exposure if you don't cover the HomeWrap immediately (remember, you have to cover HomeWrap within 4 months of installation).

StaplePac is for exclusive use with the STINGER CS150B cap stapler. This award-winning pneumatic cap stapler is designed with the contractor in mind and can accommodate every StaplePac fastener range from 5/8" to 1-1/2". The tool can fire 5 cap staples per second, making for quick installs, and its 200 cap and staple capacity means fewer and infrequent reloads, all saving you time on the job. Plus, reloading the tool takes less than 60 seconds.

Not only is the CS150B quick and easy to use, but it also has a compact, ergonomic design and weighs only 4.2 pounds, meaning less arm fatigue. It features a 360-degree tool-free adjustable exhaust, a quick-clear lever for staple clearing, and a conveniently placed belt hook, and it comes with a durable carrying case, making it a great addition to your crew.
